As you can imagine preparation for this prestigious annual event begins months in advance. Well, if we’re completely honest it begins at the debrief of that year’s event, where through fresh-from the tournament’s eyes, we reflect and take actions for the following year.
It’s an incredibly complex operation at The Championships: For 2019 we’re not just cleaners, we’re lift operators, court attendants, housekeepers, heavy machinery workers and night operatives all working alongside our standard day-to-day operation. Our mantra, rightly so, is the more we get done in advance, the easier the event delivery is. Effectively for LSS, the tournament has already started and we’re still four weeks out.
In pre-clean mode we have 50 people onsite each and every day, resetting the site and preparing for nearly 500,000 visitors that will cross the threshold during this two-week event. Kitchen’s are deep cleaned, banisters polished, toilets spotlessly cleaned, cupboards stocked up and the team is bolstered, recruited and trained.
We’re proud to say that the majority of our workforce for this event comes from within a 5-6 mile radius of Wimbledon and we have up to 250 people onsite daily. Specific day housekeeping training this year will be held on the 22nd and 23rd June whilst orientation weekend is 29th and 30th June.
We’re geared up, excited and can’t wait for the tournament to begin.
The first guest arrives on the 1st July – good luck team!
